The Banque du Liban was established in 1964, replacing the Banque de Syrie et du Liban as Lebanon's central bank — this note belongs to the inaugural series issued under that new institution. Thomas De La Rue's involvement was typical for newly independent or restructured central banks of the period seeking internationally credible currency production.
The nineteen-year date range reflects a remarkably long print run for a single design, one that survived the opening years of the Lebanese Civil War. Notes from the later end of the series circulated through serious political and economic instability beginning in 1975.
