Additional information

Gibraltar's 1972 silver proof was struck to mark the 25th wedding anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip — the same commemorative occasion that produced the more widely distributed cupro-nickel crown across several British territories simultaneously. Gibraltar's issues from this period were produced in deliberately small proof quantities, largely aimed at the collector market that had developed around Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories following decimalization in 1971.

KM#6a distinguishes the silver proof from the base-metal circulation strike catalogued as KM#6.
