Additional information

Issued to mark the 80th birthday of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in August 1980, this Saint Helena crown-sized piece was struck for a territory that had maintained a particular personal connection to the Queen Mother — she had visited the island in 1947 during the Royal Tour of Southern Africa. Saint Helena's issues of this period were produced by the Royal Mint on contract, typical of British dependent territories lacking their own minting facilities.
