Reverse description The central device depicts the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) emblem, comprising a stylized wheat ear above the letters 'F A O' arranged symmetrically within an ovoid design, with the Latin motto 'FIAT PANIS' ('Let there be bread') inscribed beneath. The Arabic legend 'لنعمل على توفير الغذاء للجميع' (Let us work to provide food for all) arcs around the upper periphery of the field. The denomination '250 FILS' in Latin characters appears in the lower left, with its Arabic equivalent '٢٥٠ فلس' in the lower right. The proof finish imparts a sharp, cameo contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and the frosted relief of the FAO device.

Additional information

Issued under the FAO coin program, which ran from the late 1960s through the 1980s as a United Nations–affiliated initiative to promote food security awareness through commemorative coinage. Bahrain's participation was modest; this 1983 proof is among the later entries in that program, struck during a period when Gulf states were navigating the economic turbulence of fluctuating oil revenues following the 1979 price shock.

The .925 silver proof designation places it firmly in the collector market rather than circulation — mintages for FAO proofs of this type were typically kept low, though precise figures for this issue are not consistently documented across major references.
