Comments

The Provisional Administration of Greece issued this note during the Greek War of Independence, when the newly formed revolutionary government had no functioning treasury, no established banking system, and no hard currency reserves to speak of. Paper money issued under these conditions was less a financial instrument than a political statement — an assertion that a Greek state existed and could issue obligations.

Pick 2 is among the earliest paper money attributable to any Greek governing body. Survival rate is extremely low; the revolutionary period saw significant destruction of records and currency alike.
