Obverse description The central device features the Korean national arms: a stylized hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) blossom encircling the taeguk symbol, flanked by a decorative floral spray of hibiscus blooms and foliage on either side. Below the arms, the Hangul legend 대한민국 (Republic of Korea) appears on a ribbon, with the denomination 2,500 원 WON inscribed beneath in both numerals and Latin script. The issuer's name 한국은행 (Bank of Korea) is rendered in large Hangul characters along the lower field, while the dual dates 4303 and 1970 — representing the Korean calendar and Gregorian year respectively — arc along the upper border, with the fineness mark 900 visible in the lower right field.
