Obverse description Crowned, draped, and bearded bust of Sigismund II Augustus facing right, wearing an ornate crown with detailed filigree work, within a beaded inner circle. The date 15-62 is divided by the effigy, with '55' visible to the left and '62' to the right of the portrait. The circumferential Latin legend runs around the periphery, partially divided by the bust. The portrait displays the characteristic mature, late-style rendering of the king with prominent beard and ruffled collar, typical of the later issues of this type.
