Obverse description Central device comprises a large heart-shaped cartouche enclosing a saltire (diagonal cross), with the initials E, V, I, and C placed in the four quarters formed by the cross arms, representing the East India Company (VOC-adjacent monogram). The numeral 4 appears prominently above the heart at the top of the field, while the date 1787 is divided across the lower field with 17 to the left and 87 to the right of the heart's base. A small floral rosette ornament is positioned at the bottom center below the heart. The entire design is contained within a broad beaded border running the full circumference of the coin.
