| Additional information |
Issued by a German military rest house (Soldatenheim) in Saint Helier during the occupation of Jersey from 1940 to 1945, these tokens served as internal canteen currency — redeemable only within the establishment and worthless outside it. The Channel Islands were the only British territory occupied by German forces in the Second World War, and the administrative improvisation that followed produced a scattered range of local token issues that were never centrally authorized by Berlin.
The copper composition reflects wartime material constraints rather than any deliberate monetary policy. Survivorship is low; most were recalled or discarded at liberation in May 1945.
