Reverse description Struck after the obverse design of the classic United States Buffalo Nickel, the field presents a boldly modelled right-facing bust of a Native American chief wearing a feathered headdress, based on James Earle Fraser's composite portrait. The legend LIBERTY is inscribed vertically along the right rim. The date 2026 appears within a recessed oval at the lower left of the portrait, accompanied by the mint mark F below.

Additional information

Liberia has issued commemorative coinage under its name since the 1970s, almost entirely for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation. This piece — a fractional gold issue invoking the American Buffalo Nickel design — continues that tradition of licensing foreign iconography for bullion and numismatic sales, a revenue stream the country has relied on for decades with no pretense of domestic monetary use.
