| Reverse description | Central design features a large Cross of the Order of Christ, comprising four triangular arms meeting at the centre, each quadrant ornamented with a quatrefoil rosette in relief. The cross is rendered in a bold, geometric style characteristic of late 18th-century Portuguese colonial coinage. The surrounding circular legend IN HOC SIGNO VINCES (In this sign thou shalt conquer) is separated by quatrefoil stops and runs along the inner border. The outer rim is defined by a continuous denticle border. A small mintmark or control mark appears at the base of the cross. |
