Grenada's 1970 FAO issue was part of a coordinated multinational release organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization to promote agricultural development across member states. Dozens of countries struck commemorative pieces that year under the same program, most of them in limited quantities destined more for collectors than cashiers. Grenada's piece, denominated at four dollars — an awkward value with no predecessor in the island's coinage history — was never a practical circulation coin.
