Additional information

Fernando VI ruled Spain from 1746 until his death in 1759, but mental illness incapacitated him entirely during his final two years — leaving the kingdom effectively without a functioning monarch precisely when these coins were being struck. The Mexico City Mint operated regardless, producing gold cobs and milled coinage for transatlantic commerce under bureaucratic inertia alone.

KM#139 represents the milled macuquina transitional period at Mexico City, where die quality and planchet preparation varied considerably between assayers. The assayer initial on each piece is the primary tool for dating within the 1757–1759 window.
