Obverse description Bare-headed bust of King Norodom I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair and a short beard. The engraver's signature C. WURDEN appears incuse below the truncation of the neck. The circumferential legend NORODOM I ROI DU CAMBODGE arcs around the upper field, while the date 1860 is prominently placed in the lower field. The coin is bordered by a continuous toothed (dentilated) rim.

Reverse description Central device comprising the Royal Arms of Cambodia: a tiered prasat (royal pavilion) surmounted by radiating sunbeams, flanked by two crossed spears and decorative scrollwork. The pavilion rests upon an ornate shield enclosed within a laurel wreath, with a star at the base. Khmer script legend arcs around the upper field on both sides of the central device. The French denomination legend QUATRE FRANCS curves along the lower field, punctuated by raised dots at either side. The whole is enclosed within a finely dentilated border.
