| Obverse description | Central device depicts a standing lion rampant facing left, holding a staff or pole surmounted by a liberty cap, set upon a decorative base within a circular field. The date 1867 appears in the lower exergue, with the denomination 4 FUERTES inscribed along the lower periphery. The surrounding legend reads REPUBLICA DEL PARAGUAY along the upper arc and PAZ Y JUSTICIA along the sides, all in incuse lettering within the coin's recessed border. The overall engraving style reflects the work of Leonardo Charles, exhibiting fine detail characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century European die-cutting traditions. The piece is struck on a polished gold planchet consistent with pattern production. |
