| Obverse description | The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, displaying the traditional quartered shield with a golden key between two rocks in the base, a royal palm in the first quarter, and a fasces beneath a Phrygian cap in the second quarter, surmounted by an oak and laurel branch wreath. The curved legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination CUATRO PESOS curves along the lower rim. A fine row of denticles borders the design close to the rim on all sides. The engraving is executed in the crisp, formal neoclassical style characteristic of the Philadelphia Mint under chief engraver Charles Edward Barber. |
