Obverse description Crowned Spanish royal arms occupying the central field, displaying the quartered coat of arms of Castile and León with the characteristic cob (macuquina) style of irregular flan and partially struck design. The partial legend CAROLVS II DEI G encircles the shield, referencing the reigning monarch Carlos II of Spain. The crown surmounting the shield is rendered in the typical baroque style of the period, and the overall strike reflects the hand-hammered production method standard to Mexican colonial cob coinage.
