| Obverse description | Draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, occupying the central field of the coin. The face of the effigy bears a rectangular lattice countermark applied by Cuban authorities in 1841, consisting of a grid pattern of raised squares punched into the portrait. The surrounding legend reads HERN·7·POR LA G· DE DIOS Y LA CONST· with the date 1823 inscribed at the base. The coin was originally struck at the Valencia mint for Spanish circulation. |

| Reverse description | The Spanish royal coat of arms, quartered with castles and lions, is displayed centrally beneath a large ornate crown. The mintmark V (Valencia) appears to the left of the shield and the assayer mark R to the right, with the denomination 4·R· inscribed at the base. The surrounding legend reads REY DE LAS ESPAÑAS, identifying Ferdinand VII as King of the Spains. The shield is rendered in the classical Bourbon heraldic style typical of early nineteenth-century Spanish coinage. |
