| Obverse description | Struck as a macuquina (cob) coinage, the obverse displays the crowned quartered arms of Castile and León at center, featuring castles and lions in alternating quarters beneath a large royal crown. A rosette mintmark and the assayer initial appear to the right of the shield in the field. The irregular flan, characteristic of hammered cob coinage, results in a partially visible peripheral legend reading PHILIPPVS V D G HISPAN ET IND REX. The overall relief is bold but unevenly struck, with design elements fading toward the clipped edges of the planchet. |
