Reverse description The crowned quartered royal arms of Spain occupy the center of the field on an ornate shield, displaying alternating castles and lions in the four quarters with the Bourbon fleur-de-lis escutcheon at fess point, surmounted by the royal imperial crown. Flanking the shield are the two Pillars of Hercules, each entwined with a ribboned banner bearing the motto PLUS ULTRA. The circumferential legend • HISPAN • ET IND • REX • arcs around the upper periphery, with the mint mark NG, assayer initial M, and denomination 4R distributed in the lower field. A toothed border frames the entire composition.
