| Obverse description | Central device of the Sol de Mayo — a radiant sun with a human face occupying the majority of the field, with alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a circular disc bearing stylized facial features. The surrounding legend reads PROVINCIAS DEL RIO DE LA PLATA in raised Latin characters along the periphery. The design is rendered in a bold, relatively primitive style characteristic of early Rio de la Plata coinage from the Potosí mint. |
