Additional information

The Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique Équatoriale — the issuing authority for French Equatorial Africa — was itself a transitional institution, operating in the narrow window between colonial monetary administration and the independent central banks that followed decolonization in 1960. Essai pieces from this issuer were produced at the Paris Mint as pattern-grade submissions, struck in very limited numbers for official approval and archival purposes, rarely if ever entering circulation.

Lec#20 places this among the scarcest documented types from the federation's coinage program.
