Obverse description Veiled and crowned effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, wearing the widow's veil and a small diamond crown, with a necklace and brooch visible at the truncation. The portrait, engraved by George William de Saulles, represents the so-called 'Old Head' or 'Jubilee Veil' type. The circular legend reads VICTORIA·DEI·GRA·BRITT·REG·FID·DEF·IND·IMP·, interrupted at the base of the bust. The engraver's initials 'De S' appear on the truncation.
