Obverse description The obverse is printed in black intaglio on a peach-tinted underprint. At left, an oval vignette presents a portrait of Queen Victoria in imperial regalia with veil and crown. The centre carries a large ornate numeral '5000' within an elaborate guilloche medallion, flanked by repeated '5000' counters at each corner. At top, the legend 'The Dominion of Canada / WILL PAY' appears in bold letterpress script, with date and authorization text above reading 'OTTAWA, JANY 2ND 1924' and 'AUTHORIZED BY 3 GEORGE V CAP. 4 1914'. The lower portion bears the denomination inscription 'FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS' and a lengthy legal tender clause specifying the note's conditions of use, with a manuscript signature at lower right and cancellation punch holes visible at lower centre.
