Obverse description A classical allegorical vignette of seated Mercury occupies the left portion of the note, rendered in intaglio against a multicolor guilloche underprint. The issuer's name is inscribed across the top, while the face value appears in both numerals and words to the right. The overall design is executed in rich multicolor tones typical of American Bank Note Company production of the period.
Obverse lettering EL BANCO DE LA NACION BOLIVIANA La Paz, 11 de Mayo de 1911 PAGARÁ AL PORTADOR Á LA VISTA 5 CINCO BOLIVIANOS EN MONEDA CORRIENTE
(Translation: The Bank of the Bolivian Nation La Paz, May 11th., 1911 Will pay to the bearer at sight 5 five Bolivianos in coin currency)
Reverse description The Bolivian coat of arms is centered on the note, flanked on either side by the face value in numerals, with the issuer's name divided above and below the central vignette. Corner numerals are rotated 45 degrees, and the legend "5 CINCO" is repeated three times along the upper and lower borders, while the word "CINCO" appears rotated 90 degrees, base toward center, twice on each lateral edge.
