Isidro Ayora served as Ecuador's president from 1926 to 1931 and was the architect of the monetary reforms that established the Banco Central del Ecuador itself in 1927 — making his appearance on this coin an institutional self-reference of sorts. The bank he founded is the very authority that issued it.
A 2023 strike of this type is a modern restrike or commemorative continuation of the KM#131 series, not a circulation issue from Ayora's own period.
