Saint Helena didn't gain its own decimal coinage until 1984, having relied on British coins and a patchwork of imported currency for most of its history. The 2021 reissues updated the issuing authority name to reflect the full territorial grouping — a bureaucratic consolidation that had been formalized years earlier but took time to filter into the coinage.
