Agrupament de la Indústria Flequera de Granollers — the bakers' trade association of Granollers — issued this during the anarcho-syndicalist collectivization of Catalonia following the July 1936 uprising. Hundreds of local bodies, guilds, and collectives issued their own small-denomination scrip when Republican-zone coinage essentially vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted almost immediately after the war began.
A bakers' collective issuing currency is not unusual for the period — what is unusual is that this one survived. Granollers was heavily bombed in May 1938, one of the war's most destructive air raids on a Catalan town.
