The Cocos (Keeling) Islands did issue a genuine plastic token coinage through the Clunies-Ross family administration — a feudal arrangement that persisted until the Australian government bought out the family's interests in 1978. These copper-nickel pieces dated 2004 are an entirely different matter: fantasy issues produced for the collector market with no official sanction, catalogued in the X# series precisely because Krause reserved that prefix for non-circulating exonumia and outright fantasies. The "X" designation is the tell.
