Obverse description The Barbadian National Arms rendered in high relief at center, depicting a shield supported by two Pride of Barbados flowers, with a bearded fig tree above and a scroll bearing the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY below. The dates 1966 and 1976 flank the shield to left and right respectively, commemorating the tenth anniversary of independence. The legend BARBADOS arcs along the lower rim, with the Franklin Mint mark (FM) appearing twice in the field. A beaded border encircles the design.

Reverse description A central depiction of the South Point Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Barbados, shown in three-quarter perspective with radiating light beams extending into the field and palm trees and coastal scenery in the background. The denomination FIVE CENTS arcs boldly along the lower portion of the design in large raised letters. The engraver's initials PN appear discreetly in the lower field. A beaded border frames the entire composition.
