Reverse description The reverse is entirely blank, presenting a smooth, flat lead field with no design, legend, or device of any kind. This plain reverse is characteristic of a reverse trial piece, where only the proposed reverse die was struck against an unworked obverse, leaving this side featureless. The octagonal shape of the flan is clearly defined by eight flat milled edges, and the surface shows the natural oxidation and granularity typical of a lead trial striking.
