The Deutsche Rentenbank's postwar 5 Rentenmark is an oddity of monetary administration — the Rentenmark had effectively ceased to function as a primary currency years earlier, but the institution continued issuing notes into the late 1940s for use specifically in the Western occupation zones pending the currency reform that arrived in June 1948. This note was rendered obsolete almost immediately upon issue, exchangeable at 10 old Rentenmark to 1 Deutsche Mark under the reform decree.
The Rosen/Grab 332a designation distinguishes a specific signature or serial variation within the type. Worth verifying against the plate letter when cataloging individual examples.
