Obverse description Intaglio portrait of Hannibal Barca in right profile at centre-left, wearing an ornate crested helmet, rendered in fine engraved detail against a guilloche underprint in olive-green tones. A vignette of the ancient Punic Port of Carthage with its characteristic circular harbour structure appears to the right. The numeral '5' is printed at upper-left and lower-centre, with the serial number and two signature lines appearing at the lower portion of the note.

The "Printed: 30.04.1945" field in this catalog record is almost certainly a data error — the Banque Centrale de Tunisie was not established until 1958, and this note belongs to a series introduced in the early 1990s. The Banque de France facility at Chamalières, which printed currency for numerous Francophone African and Mediterranean states throughout that period, is the correct attribution here.

Tunisia's relationship with French security printing persisted well into the post-independence decades, driven by technical dependency rather than politics — domestic intaglio capacity simply did not exist.
