Obverse description Printed in dark brown on a fine guilloche underprint, the obverse carries a central oval vignette with a bust portrait of an elderly bearded gentleman in formal attire. The bilingual bank title appears to the left in French as 'LA BANQUE PROVINCIALE DU CANADA' and to the right in English as 'THE PROVINCIAL BANK OF CANADA', flanking the portrait. The date 'MONTREAL, LE 2 JANV. 1935' appears at the upper left and right, with serial number and prefix letter 'A' at both ends of the note, and two manuscript signatures below for the President and General Manager.

Reverse description Printed in green, the reverse centres on an intaglio vignette of the bank's main branch building, a classical stone structure rendered in fine architectural detail with pedestrians visible at street level. Flanking the central vignette are two large numeral '5' counters set within ornate lathe-work rosettes. The bank's bilingual title runs along the top and bottom borders within a heavily guilloche-patterned frame.
