Obverse description The obverse is printed in dark blue-green intaglio on a light orange guilloche underprint. Two oval portrait vignettes flank a central design: an elderly gentleman in a suit appears at left, and a second male portrait occupies the right. At centre, the large numeral '5' is set within an ornate guilloche panel bearing the promise text 'WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND', with the date '3rd JAN. 1938' and place of issue 'TORONTO' above. The bank title 'THE DOMINION BANK' is inscribed in bold letters across the top, with 'FIVE DOLLARS' along the lower margin, and two manuscript facsimile signatures of the President and General Manager at the foot.
