The Solomon Islands gained independence from Britain in July 1978, making this 1977 note part of the transitional pre-independence issue — printed before the nation formally existed as a sovereign state. The Central Bank of Solomon Islands was established under legislation passed ahead of independence, with the first note series contracted to De La Rue before the handover was complete.
Pick 6 is the higher-denomination end of that inaugural series. Cotton substrate from De La Rue's standard colonial-era specification, with a watermark as the sole security provision — modest even by the standards of the time.
