Batman #251, the 1973 Neal Adams cover that this coin presumably references, is widely considered the issue that ended the campy, television-influenced era of the character and returned him to his darker roots. DC's editorial shift in that period was deliberate — Adams and writer Dennis O'Neil had spent several years systematically dismantling the Adam West aesthetic, and #251's "The Joker's Five-Way Revenge" is generally cited as the definitive break point.
