Obverse description Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in three-quarter view occupies the right side of the note, rendered in intaglio against an intricate guilloche underprint in red and pale yellow. The denomination numeral '5' appears in ornate lathe-work vignettes at the left and lower-right corners, with the legal tender inscription centred above. The issuer name is set in bold letterpress across the lower border panel.

Reverse description A finely engraved vignette of a Tui bird (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) perched on a branch occupies the right-centre of the note, labelled 'TUI' beneath, set against a multicolour guilloche background.
