Obverse description At right, a front-facing crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Kokoshnik Tiara, rendered in intaglio. The centre vignette presents the Altun Ha Maya temple, with the Coat of Arms of Belize positioned at lower right and a vignette of a Queen angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris) at upper left. The legends surrounding the design reference the Third Anniversary of Independence and bear the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO.

Reverse description The central vignette is occupied by a Great Curassow, flanked at left by a jaguar (Panthera onca) set before a palm tree. The denomination and issuing authority are inscribed in the surrounding legends.
