Comments

Fermont is a planned mining town in northern Quebec, built in the early 1970s to house workers at the Mont-Wright iron ore complex. Its isolation — the town sits roughly 570 kilometres north of Sept-Îles — made locally issued scrip a practical complement to Saint-Jean-Baptiste celebrations, where organizers needed a controlled medium for festival transactions.

Les Amis de la Saint-Jean operated as a community booster organization, and notes like this one were redeemable at participating vendors during the annual festivities. Deschamps Impression, a long-established Quebec commercial printer, handled small municipal and festival scrip runs of this kind throughout the province.
