Additional information

Nauru's micro-gold issues from this period were produced by the Austrian Mint under licensing arrangements common to several Pacific island nations with no meaningful domestic minting infrastructure. Gandhi's image has appeared on commemorative coinage issued by dozens of countries, but Nauru's 2010 piece is among the smallest gold strikes bearing his likeness — half a gram at 11mm places it firmly in the novelty bullion category that flooded the market in the late 2000s as gold prices climbed past $1,000 per troy ounce.
