Somalia's connection to the Titanic is purely commercial. By the late 1990s, the country's nominal government was issuing novelty collector pieces under licensing arrangements that had nothing to do with Somali history, currency needs, or monetary policy — the "X#" prefix in the standard reference catalog designates it as an unofficial or fantasy issue, outside the regular numismatic series entirely.
