Additional information

This piece belongs to Malta's ongoing series drawing from Greco-Roman mythology, a program the Central Bank has used to position the island's numismatic output toward the European collector market. The Midas's Judgement episode — in which King Midas awarded Pan the victory over Apollo in a musical contest and received donkey's ears as divine punishment — appears far less frequently in mint programs than the more bankable Midas-and-gold-touch narrative, making the subject choice mildly unusual.

The porcelain insert is produced in collaboration with Ta' Qali, Malta's established craft center for ceramics.
