The Chinese Soviet Republic never actually issued aluminum or copper fen coinage during its existence in the Jiangxi Soviet period of the early 1930s — the original pieces were largely propaganda artifacts with contested authenticity even at the time. The 1960 restrikes were produced by the People's Republic as collector items, effectively manufacturing a numismatic history for a government that had minimal functioning mint infrastructure during the revolution.
