| Obverse description | A recumbent lion vignette occupies the left portion of the note, engraved in intaglio with fine cross-hatching detail, while a second vignette at upper right renders an African scene with figures and architectural ruins in blue. The central field bears the bold red letterpress denomination CINQ FRANCS beneath the bank title BANQUE DE L'AFRIQUE OCCIDENTALE, with the clause PAYABLES EN ESPÈCES, A VUE, AU PORTEUR below.
