| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Honoré V, Prince of Monaco, facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curly hair and a short beard, in the neoclassical style characteristic of Maurice Borrel. The legend HONORE V arcs along the left field and PRINCE DE MONACO along the right, separated by a period stop at the base. The engraver's signature BORREL . F appears in small capitals at the lower centre, just inside the toothed border that frames the entire obverse. |

| Reverse description | The arms of Monaco — a lozenge-patterned shield of fusils in fess (bendy of argent and gules) — occupy the centre of the field, surmounted by a princely crown and supported on either side by two robed figures standing on a stepped plinth. The denomination 5 FRANCS is inscribed in large Roman capitals below the shield, with the date 1837 and mint mark M directly beneath. The engraver's signature E. ROGAT appears vertically along the lower right field, and the design is framed by a finely toothed border. |
