| Obverse description | At left, an oval portrait vignette of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands set within a fine guilloche border; to the right, an intaglio vignette of a Bird of Paradise. The large numeral '5' appears in the centre against an elaborate guilloche underprint, with the denomination legend 'NIEUW-GUINEA VIJF GULDEN' in bold letterpress across the upper portion.
