Obverse description Central field displays four Chinese ideograms arranged vertically, read top to bottom and right to left, flanked by decorative floral rosettes and stars. Four Manchu script words appear above as a direct translation of the central ideograms. A further four Chinese ideograms are distributed around the periphery of the design. The overall layout is symmetrical, with the floral and stellar embellishments providing ornamental framing consistent with late Qing dynasty coinage aesthetics.

Additional information

No 5 Jiao coin was officially issued under the Guangxu Emperor's reign that matches this specification in steel. If this is a contemporary or later restrike, that context should be confirmed before cataloging further. The Guangxu period (1875–1908) produced provincial silver coinages through mechanized mints introduced under Li Hongzhang's modernization program, but magnetic steel issues of this denomination are not consistent with that production record.
