Issued to mark the 25th anniversary of Papua New Guinea's independence from Australia in September 1975, this commemorative note was printed by Note Printing Australia — the same Melbourne facility that has handled the country's standard circulation issues for decades. The commemorative framing is modest: no special substrate, no upgraded security thread, just a watermark and the standard paper stock.
Pick 22 is sometimes confused with the regular 5 Kina issues of the same period. The distinguishing factor is the anniversary overprint or special serial prefix, depending on the batch.
