| Obverse description | The national emblem of the Maldive Islands occupies the central field, depicting a coconut palm tree surmounted by a crescent and star motif, flanked on either side by two crossed national flags on staffs, all above a ribbon cartouche bearing an Arabic legend. The Western calendar year '1960' appears to the left of the emblem, while the corresponding Islamic Hijri year '١٣٧٩' is inscribed to the right. The design is rendered in moderate relief against a plain field within the distinctive eight-lobed scalloped border. |
